Waymore's Blues

Today would have been Waylon Jennings' 72nd birthday. He left us in 2002...and he left us a bunch of music. He began his Career in Texas in the late 1950's. Buddy Holly produced Waylon's first recordings, and Waylon became the bass player for Buddy when The Crickets broke up. Waylon lost a coin toss to J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson on February 3, 1959 and Waylon gave up his airplane seat to him...that plane went down with Richardson, Ritchie Valens and Buddy Holly on board - "The Day the Music Died".

Waylon went on to a long and storied career that made him one of the founders of the "Country Outlaw" movement in the 1970's (more on this at another date), a member of "The Highwaymen" with Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson in the 1980's and 90's and a member of "The Old Dogs" with Bobby Bare, Mel Tillis and Jerry Reed in the 1990's singing the songs of Shel Silverstien.

I could go on and on about Waylon, but he can do it better.
I've always been crazy, it's helped me from going insane...

Ten long years with a 5 piece band starin' at the wrong side of me...

There weren't another other way to be...

Happy birthday, hoss. We miss ya.
