Raymond Scott - "Powerhouse"

Raymond Scott was born 101 years ago today in 1908.

An American jazz composer, a pianist, a band leader, an engineer and inventor of electronic instruments, who's more famous to most of you than you know.

Raymond Scott was a progressive jazz player and composer of idiosyncratic music, one day he sold his songs to Warner Brothers to publish. Carl Stalling, the musical director for "Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies" was a big fan and Scott's music was used in over 120 classic cartoons.

Cartoons you have known by heart your whole life.

See if when listening to this you can't picture Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, Mac & Tosh "The Goofy Gophers", Sylvester and Tweetie and others.

The video available online of Raymond and his quintet playing this is off-limits to embed here, but here from a theatrical musical short of the late 1930's (?) are "The Philharmonicas playing his song, "Powerhouse".

Enjoy!

Thanks Raymond...you taught me what kind of music should be played in a factory!
