Drink Hole Friday Concert - Loudon Wainwright III - "Career Moves" part 1

Friday night and the work week's over! Time to sit back, partake of the relaxant of your choice and hear some live music while you're pretending your at "Ye Olde Drink Hole".

This weekend I'm hosting Loudon Wainwright III. A venerable folkie from wayyyy back in the day, in fact one of the army of performers with Kris Kristofferson, John Prine, Bruce Springsteen and many more who were saddled with the combination burden and flattery of being called "The New Dylan".

I've discussed this man's work before on this blog, so let's get right to it. His 1993 live album "Career Moves" is what I'm spotlighting tonight and tomorrow night, it shows all the happy and sad sides of Wainwright's songwriting as well as his showmanship in interacting with an audience. As I've said before in this series, this man is a working artist, if you like what you hear here, please support him. These audio files are for your listening enjoyment, but if you'd like to hear more, please visit his website here.

On with the show...

"Road Ode" - Ahhhh Willie Nelson and Jack Kerouac would be soooooo proud!

"I'm Alright" - Sometimes things aren't as bad as they seem...and sometimes they don't really even seem that bad.

"Five Years Old" - A father's long distance birthday card to his 5 year old daughter...

"Your Mother and I" - A father explaining to the kids why he and Mom are long distance now...

"Westchester County" - What's an upper-middle class folk singer got to build on?

"He Said, She Said" - What they said between the sheets...

"Christmas Rap" - intro to "Suddenly It's Christmas"...

"Suddenly It's Christmas" - Lament to the 3 month retail Christmas holiday. Getting longer every year...

"Thanksgiving" - This could be any one of our's holiday...

"A Fine Celtic Name" - into to "T.S.M.N.W.A."...

"T.S.M.N.W.A." - Genius! And only Loudon ever gets to sing it! They Spelled My Name Wrong Again!!!

See you back here tomorrow night for another dose from the old "Odd-o".

Talk to you soon!
